Entry #11 - due May 2

The movie trailer is now done! We are finished filming and editing the trailer! I just have to upload it to YouTube so that I can show it to the class when I present.

We filmed the rest of the scenes on April 26, 2014. The scenes were based at a party, so there was a party scene. So we actually filmed at a party we went to. The trailer turned out pretty nice! There were a few things that could've been better, but our extras weren't cooperating that well. I don't blame them though since they were at a party and didn't want to be working on a project. But, it is 99% the way that I wanted the movie trailer to turn out.

Now all I have to worry about is the presentation. I'm not sure if I am going to show the whole trailer during the presentation. I want to, but I don't know yet.

The picture below shows the editing program that I used to edit the trailer. I used Final Cut Pro. You can see most of the clips and the music of the trailer there. (Image was from a screenshot on my computer)

Entry #10 - due April 18

Last Saturday, April 12, was the first filming day as planned. Gabby and I met with our cast at Fowler Park. We filmed about half of our trailer. I have already edited what we have filmed, and I think it is pretty good. I am really excited to finish filming and editing the trailer. I just want to see how it turns out already.

On Saturday, we filmed the couple scenes of Lena and Alex, a few nature scenes, and Hana and Lena's scene. We got done quicker than I thought we would. Also, we weren't awkward around each other when we filmed. I thought it was going to be a bit weird at first, but it was completely fine.

So far, the trailer is one minute long. After we film and edit the rest, I think the trailer will be around two minutes. Also, I chose and cut the music for the trailer, and I love it a lot.

The picture below is the editing program I am using for the trailer, Final Cut Pro. (The picture is a screenshot of my laptop screen.)

Entry #9 - due April 11

The first filming day for the Delirium movie trailer is this Saturday, April 12. We will be filming most of the scenes at Fowler Park, and also use the surrounding areas to film. During the first day of filming, we will just have the main cast be there. The main cast includes Sierra Choyce, David Medina, and Casey Lloyd. Our second filming day will be during spring break and will include many extras for the party scene. We need extras to be the regulators, couples, and people at the party. We are planning to film the party scene at Fowler Park during the night time.

I am really excited to start filming and I just hope that the trailer turns out really great. I'm honestly excited to edit the trailer the most. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

I've also started working on the word slides of the trailer, and I think it looks great!

Below is a picture of part of the script that I highlighted for the cast to know their lines for when we start filming on Saturday. This picture was taken on my phone.

Entry #8 - due April 4

The first filming day is on April 12, as I mentioned in the last blog entry. We are finished with the script, so there is not really anything to do until we start filming. Gabby and I are going to meet up with the David, Sierra, and Casey on that Saturday at 2 PM. We are going to film at Fowler Park. We are filming here because there is a big open space of grass, and we need an area like that for our trailer.

As for what we are going to bring to the park with us, I am going to bring my tripod, camera, and laptop. Gabby is also going to bring her camera just in case.

As for costumes, we aren't going to be very strict about it. However, we would like David to bring 2-3 outfits for his character, Alex. And the same for Sierra for her character, Lena. We want Casey to bring 2 outfits for her character Hana. Then, for the regulators, we would like them to wear grey tops, blank pants, and black shoes. For the people in the party scene, anything is fine.

The picture below is just of something that I worked on in class during 20% time last Friday. I was planning out the scenes and filming details.

Entry #7 - due March 28

Gabby and I have finally finished the script and found people for our main cast, which consists of three people. David Medina will be Alex, the main male role. Sierra Choyce will be Lena, the main female role. Casey Lloyd will be Hana, Lena's best friend. Finding the cast took a while, but now that we finally have one, we can start filming. Our first filming day will be on Saturday, April 12. We are planning on filming all the main scenes that day. And other scenes that need extras, such as the party scene, will be filmed on a different day. We still need to figure out where we will film everything though. Once we figure that out, I think everything will be easy from there. Also, I think we are going at a pretty good pace. Filming will take two, three days tops. We can probably finish editing the whole trailer in a few days as well.

The picture below is from the script of the final scene in our trailer. That is probably the scene I am most exciting about.

Entry #6 - due March 14

For my movie trailer, I've been writing the script and planning for the filming.

My pitch will be sent in as a video. I am just going to briefly be talking about what I've been working on for my movie trailer for Delirium. Some links to the stuff I will mention are:

1. http://filmmakermagazine.com/37093-first-impressions/#.Ux_5S-ddWJk
2. http://www.theguardian.com/film/2012/jun/16/how-to-make-a-movie-trailer

Both of these links are websites I use to help me learn how to make a good movie trailer. It gives me tips and advice on what to do and how to do it.

3. http://delirium.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters

This is the website I use to read the character descriptions in order to know how they would act in real life. This way, I can tell the actors how to do certain scenes.

4. http://www.ehow.com/how_8210139_write-trailer-script.html

This is the website I use to gets tips on how to write the actual script for the trailer. It helps me think about what to put in the trailer and how to plan all the scenes.

I am confident in my pitch, but I do not really have a product to show the class yet. This is because me and my partner, Gabby, have not started filming yet. We are still working on the script, but we are trying to finish it in the next week or two. Honestly, we probably haven't finished it because we want it to be perfect so we aren't sure of the scenes we want to include in it. We are determined to finish it soon though, so we can start filming already. During my pitch video, I will probably insert a few pictures of our script for the class to see.

Entry #5 - due March 7

I have changed my 20% project idea since my first blog entry, so the links in that entry are irrelevant now. Although, Gabby and I have been using a couple links to help us write our script. We use the links to help us remember the characters and the book since we read it a few months ago.

The links are:

1. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11614718-delirium -Goodreads
We used the summary from this link to help us write the beginning of our movie trailer. The lines of the script are similar to the summary on the link. It helped to get our script going. I found this site through Google.

2. http://delirium.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters -Delirium Wiki
This link lists the characters in the book. When we click on a character's name, it takes us to a page of the characters descriptions and relationships with the other characters, so it is very helpful to us. We look back at this when we write the script so that the lines are something that the character would actually say. Also, it will help our actors to act like how the characters actually are. I found this sight through Google.

3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=336qJITnDi0 -Divergent Theatrical Trailer
This is the link to the trailer for the Divergent movie. We are using this for inspiration to plan and write our script. I found this site through YouTube.

Entry #4 - due Feb. 28

My partner, Gabby, and I have decided to make our movie trailer for the book Delirium by Lauren Oliver. We chose this book because we have both read it, and we really like the story line. Also, a lot of people in our class have read it since it was a choice for the summer assignment. Since many people know the book, we think they will understand the trailer more.

We have not started writing the actual script for the trailer yet, but we plan on doing that tomorrow during 20% project class time and also tomorrow after school. We are going to try to finish most of it.

One challenge we are facing is that we aren't sure which scenes to put in the trailer. None of us have ever made a trailer before, so this is all new to us. But I think once we look more at the book and talk about it, we will figure it out. Also, we do not know which characters to put in the trailer. We are obviously going to be focusing on Lena and Alex, but we don't know which other characters to include.

As for our cast, we haven't asked anyone yet, but we probably figure that out after we write the script. The pre-filming stuff is more challenging than the actual filming and editing. We are trying to work on it and make it the best that we can though.

The picture below shows some of my planning and the challenges explained.
The image was just taken with my phone.

Entry #3 - due Feb. 14

Mrs Weck only half approve mine and Gabby's project pitch. Gabby Cruz is my partner for this project. Mrs. Weck liked the film/ movie trailer idea, but told us we should do something else, not child abuse. Gabby and I chose to make a movie trailer for a book. We are going to try to choose a book that is not a movie yet. We still have not chosen a movie to do the trailer on. However we will probably decide at the beginning of winter break, when we have more time to think about it. We have to decide on a book very soon though because without it, we cannot do anything. During 20% project class time last week, I tried to look up some popular young adult book to do the movie trailer on. That's all I've done so far for the project. I have been thinking about which book to do on my own time as well. I will probably look up more books tomorrow during 20% project class time.

Below is a picture of the list of some options for the book for the movie trailer. As you can see, if is not many options, but it is because I really want the trailer to turn out great. So I am being a little picky with the book. I will mostly choose by this Saturday or Sunday though, latest Monday.

Entry #2 - due Jan. 31

I'm creating a movie trailer that has a special meaning about child abuse in it.

Links to the resources I will mention in my pitch:
1. www.childhelp-usa.com/pages/statistics
2. http://www.paypromedia.com/2014/01/02/video-marketing-7-ways-to-capture-their-attention-in-the-first-15-seconds/

Even though the pitch is only going to be about 60 seconds, I am still pretty nervous for it. I feel like the details for my idea are a little scattered. I have some of the main points down, but the little details I am not sure about. For the part where I am suppose to tell everyone why they should care about my project, I do not really know what to say. At least I am not sure if what I am planning to say is going to be okay.

I am not exactly sure what to talk about during the pitch, other than what is on the paper that Mrs. Weckesser gave us. I wish she gave us more examples of actual students doing their pitch for the project. It would give me a better idea of what is expected.

I feel like I will do okay, but once I get up in front of everyone, I will be really nervous. When I get nervous, I talk really fast and start laughing. Hopefully, that won't happen and everything will go smoothly. I just hope that I will include everything in my pitch that is expected.

Entry #1 - due Jan. 24

At first, I was very excited to do the 20% project. However, now, I am still not exactly sure what I want to do yet. I have a few ideas, but none of them are that great to me. I think this project will be a great learning experience though. I like that we can choose what we want to learn, but there are so many choices. My mind is all over the place. There are many things I want to learn, but nothing really sticks out to me. Once I know what I want to do for the project, I know I will probably become more excited about the project. Spending time in class learning about something I want to learn will make coming to class more fun. I will look forward to Fridays in C-8, because I know I will be doing something that is interesting to me. I can use this project to do something important like helping the environment, being healthier, raising money for charities, or raising awareness of something. I can help the environment by cleaning up a beach or picking up trash in an area. I can be healthier by learning how to cook vegetarian meals or learning juice recipes. An organized all-ages event would be good for raising money for charities. If I wanted to raise awareness of something, like child abuse, or eating disorders, I could do a documentary on it.

One idea that I like a little bit is to learn how to cook vegetarian meals, and learn the the benefits of being a vegetarian. I would do a cooking video and make tutorials of the vegetarian meals. I would also talk about the how being a vegetarian is good for you.

Some websites I think would be useful in for this project idea are:

1. http://www.vegetariantimes.com/article/why-go-veg-learn-about-becoming-a-vegetarian/ by Vegetarian Times
I found this website by going to Google and typing in "how does being a vegetarian benefit you".
This will help me create a better product because it tells me how becoming a vegetarian would be beneficial. I could list the reasons in my cooking video.

2. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1530 by SparkPeople
I found this website by going to Google and typing in "how to get the vitamins and minerals from being a vegetarian".
This will help me create a better product because it tells me how I can still get my daily vitamin, mineral, and nutrition requirements even if I eat as a vegetarian. I could use this to help me think of what to put in my meals.
